BANGALORE: A 22-year-old software engineer committed suicide unable to bear the alleged harassment by her husband. Her parents accuse their son-in-law of murder.

Soumya, who worked for Tech Mahindra, was found hanging from the ceiling at her house in ITI Layout near Chandra Layout. Her husband Avinash and his parents took her to a nearby private hospital where she was declared dead. The body was then taken to Victoria Hospital for autopsy.

Soumya’s sister Shruti told The Hindu that her sister had given Rs. 13,000 in cash to a relative. On Wednesday, the couple reportedly had a row over the issue when he was going to file the income tax return.

“This is just one of such incidents of harassment ever since her wedding three months ago. My sister would confide in me about these. He also suspected her character,” Shruti said. Neighbours had heard the couple’s quarrels, she added.

Soumya was the eldest of the three daughters of D.N. Chandrashekar, manager, Cauvery Grameena Bank in Hassan.

The family has filed a complaint against Avinash, who works with Oracle.
