Manipal: Manipal University has won the Best in Class Award (Second highest) of the prestigious International Asia Pacific Quality Award – 2008 under Education Category promoted by Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO).

A press release issued by the university here on Thursday stated that this award would be presented at the APQO/ International Conference of Quality Managers to be held in Teheran, Iran, from August 23 to 25.

This award is modelled after the U.S. Malcolm Baldridge Performance Excellence Award.

While it was the eighth year of the International Asia Pacific Quality Awards process, it is for the first time that this award has been bestowed upon Manipal University. The four categories of these awards are — Large Manufacturing, Large Service, Small Business and Education, the press release said.

The criteria for judging the entries include leadership, strategic planning, student, stakeholder and market focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, faculty and staff focus, process management and results.

“It is indeed a feather in the cap of Manipal University that it has been recognised as being part of exemplary organisations of world class quality performance,” the release added.
