BANGALORE: Aashayein Foundation, a Bangalore-based non-government organisation formed by a group of young people, is conducting an “Aashayein Walkathon” to spread awareness on the need to ensure primary education for underprivileged children, at Kanteerava Stadium at 7 a.m. on July 20.
The objective of the foundation is to ensure education for children who are from economically weaker sections of society and to provide them with monetary and non-monetary support for their empowerment.
“Aashayein Walkathon will give us a chance to interact with people from all walks of life and spread awareness about our mission of every child getting the right to education. The event will also present oneself with an opportunity to reach out and make a difference to the lives of these children,” said Joybroto Ganguly, managing trustee of the foundation.
Aashayein has been involved in teaching various subjects in schools, providing stationery, and enrolling poor children in schools through programmes such as Shikshana Abhiyana, Pustaka Abhiyana and Bacche Mann Ke Sachche respectively.
In the first year of the project (2007-2008), 76 students were enrolled in various schools across Bangalore and 65 students successfully completed the first year of their education, he added.
Aashayein Foundation also seeks the participation of the people, who they say can help identify children who do not go to school. The website of the foundation is www.aashayeinfoundation.org
