BANGALORE: “Guru Vandana” was offered to the Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, at the Malleswaram Grounds in the city on Monday.

Despite heavy rains, hundreds of people participated in the programme which was organised by Malleswaram MLA, C.N. Ashwathanarayan, to felicitate the seer on his arrival in Bangalore.

Help promised

Home Minister V.S. Acharya said the State Government would provide all assistance to the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, which was planning to take up various educational and social activities in Karnataka..

The peetam is starting a medical college in Chamarajanagar district, and the H.D. Kumaraswamy Government had given permission for it, he said.

The performance by violinist L. Subramaniam and singing of bhajans by Kavitha Krishnamurthy were highlights of the programme. Prominent persons from different walks of life, coming from Malleswaram, were felicitated on the occasion.
