Belgaum: The Belgaum City Corporation (BCC) and the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) have undertaken a joint exercise to create awareness on judicious use of water, and the 24x7 drinking water supply system implemented in the city last year.
The project has become operational in a few BCC wards, and works in other wards are in various stages of progress.
To make the project successful, both the BCC and KUIDFC have undertaken a programme to sensitise people to the importance of using water judiciously.
The thrust is on involving every single household under the project, which is being implemented with World Bank funds.
The success of the initiative lies not only in participation of residents, but also on prompt payment of tariff. Though the project has been implemented in ten wards falling in the northern and southern parts of the city, a substantial number of residents has not installed meters yet. The BCC and the KUWAISP have engaged a cultural troupe “Rangadarshan Kala Tanda” of Dulganawadi in Chikkodi taluk to stage street plays on the theme “Nimma Arogya Namma Kaiyalli” (Your health in our hands).
They will be staged in parts of Vaddarwadi, Gangwadi, Anjanayanagar, Satyasai colony, Markandeya Nagar, Angol and Jatpat colony.
Sources in the BCC said here on Thursday that efforts were being made to cover all residents in the selected wards under the project. The residents were expected to cooperate and install water meters to ensure the success of the project, the sources added.
