Land identified for bio-fuel factories in Bijapur

BIJAPUR: In-charge Deputy Commissioner S.M. Sonnad has said that Bijapur district administration has identified land to establish bio-fuel factories at the industrial area and saplings of jatropha and honge will be planted to support these factories.

Speaking after inaugurating a seminar on “Students and environment protection”, organised by the District Information Department and S.S. Junior College, here on Saturday, Mr. Sonnad said unscientific lifestyle, greed and immorality had contributed to environment damage across the world.

Private organisations should voluntarily come forward to protect the environment by creating awareness among the youth, he added.

Henceforth, the urban development authority would be directed to permit new layouts only after the contractors signed an agreement that two saplings would be planted in front of every plot, he said. Bijapur Zilla Panchayat president Sangeeta Dinni said the Deputy Director of Public Instruction would be told to stress more on awareness programmes through eco clubs and green camps in schools and colleges. District Information Officer Manjunath Sullolli, principal of the college B.R. Patil and vice-principal S.D. Nandi were present.
