GULBARGA: The Karnataka Power Corporation Scheduled Caste and Tribe Welfare Organisation has questioned the inclusion of a name in the list finalised for promotion from the post of Assistant Accounts Officer to Accounts Officer. The list was finalised at the 27th meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL).

The organisation has accused the committee of committing recommending the name of a General Category candidate for the post which is reserved for a Scheduled Caste candidate.

Vice-president of the central committee of the organisation Jane Parameshwar told presspersons here on Monday that the KPTCL should cancel the promotion list finalised by the DPC.

Mr. Parameshwar said that the DPC, in its meeting, had selected 22 Assistant Account Officers to be promoted to Account Officers in different Escoms in the State. Of the 22 posts, a minimum of three posts should be reserved for the Scheduled Castes as per the roster and the backlog in promotions.

Mr. Parameshwar said that the DPC had selected one Mariswamy for promotion on the basis of the claim that he belonged to a Scheduled Caste. Mr. Parameshwar alleged that in the senior list published by the KPTCL on January 1, 2009, Mr. Mariswamy had been shown as a general category officer. However, to the DPC, Mr. Mariswamy had allegedly claimed to belong to a Scheduled Caste, he said.

He said that the KPTCL management should ask the Civil Rights Enforcement cell of the police to investigate the incident.

The organisation would also file a complaint with the CRE cell, he added.
