BANGALORE: Several landowners of Hebbal and surrounding villages have petitioned the Karnataka High Court against the acquisition of their land on Bellary Road by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB).
The petitioners, Narayanamma, H.M. Krishnappa and four others, all of Neerabhavi Kempapura in Hebbal and several others have questioned the rationale and legality of the KIADB in acquiring their lands for a private entrepreneur.
The petitioners said they are residents of Hebbal Ammanikere village of Kasaba hobli.
They said they are aggrieved by the action of the KIADB in declaring their lands on Bellary Road near Yelahanka as industrial land.
They said a private company had asked the Government for 27 acres adjoining the National Highway.
The company wanted to set up a tourist centre with a resort, five-star hotel, amusement park, conference and convention centre, art and craft exhibition, restaurant and shopping complex.
The company wanted to set up the project on 70 acres. Since it had already finalised deals with landowners for 33 acres, it had asked the Government to acquire 37 acres. The proposal was placed before the high-level single window agency constituted by the State Government to clear developmental projects. The State then asked the KIADB to acquire the land for the project.
Narayanamma and others said the KIADB had issued notifications for acquiring their lands.
They urged the court to stay the acquisition. Justice B.S. Patil adjourned further hearing on the case.
A Division Bench adjourned further hearing on a public interest litigation petition filed by several landowners and farmers of Bidadi and surrounding areas challenging the decision of the State Government to acquire their lands for construction of a township near Bidadi.
