SHIMOGA: Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa said here on Tuesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party Government was committed to beautifying Shimoga city as envisioned by the “Nanna Kanasina Shimoga” — a voluntary organisation engaged in the development of the city.

Replying to felicitations offered to him by the organisation on his being inducted as Minister, Mr. Eshwarappa, who has been re-elected to the Assembly from the Shimoga Urban Constituency, sought the active involvement of all sections in the beautification drive.

Referring to the development projects introduced by the previous coalition government for the development of not only Shimoga city, but the entire district, he said that all the works which were shelved following the dissolution of the Assembly would be revived by the new government with a strong resolve to complete them within a strict time-frame.

He said that the implementation of the augmented water supply scheme with an outlay of Rs. 28 crore, modernisation of the private bus stand, widening and concretisation of the BH Road, construction of indoor stadium, and Suvarna Karnataka Samskritika Bhavan were some of the major development works which would be completed soon.

Mr. Eshwarappa said that work on the four-lane express highway between Shimoga and Bhadravati would be taken up after the rainy season.

In a memorandum submitted to the Minister, N. Gopinath of Nanna Kanasina Shimoga called for setting up of a software technology park in Shimoga, greater encouragement to the IT and BT units to be set up in the city, promoting ecotourism and the setting up of an auto cluster .

Manjunath presided over the function.

A.N.Vijayendra Rao welcomed the gathering.
