GULBARGA: The Deputy Election Commissioner, R. Balakrishnan, on Tuesday reviewed the preparations made for polling in the 13 Assembly constituencies of the district on May 22 and the arrangements made for counting of votes at Gulbarga University on May 25.
The review meeting chaired by Mr. Balakrishnan was attended by Regional Commissioner Gangaram Baderia, Inspector General of Police M.V. Murthy, District Election Officer Pankajkumar Pandey, Superintendent of Police Manish Kharbikar, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat P.C. Jaffer and the Commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force, among others.
The Deputy Election Commissioner spoke about the latest directions issued by the Election Commission for the conduct of polling and counting. Returning officers and assistant returning officers and election observers also participated in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the police intercepted a vehicle and arrested Vittal Heroor, BJP candidate for the Gurmitkal seat, for allegedly carrying unaccounted cash of Rs. 2,90,500. Two others, including the driver of the vehicle, were also arrested. They were released on bail.
