DHARWAD: The Congress candidate for Dharwad constituency Vinay Kulkarni, former MLA, has expressed confidence that the former Minister S.R. Morey would not act against the interests of the party during the Assembly elections.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Kulkarni said that there was no opposition within the party for his candidature. Mr. Kulkarni said that although Mr. Morey had competed with him for securing the party ticket for Dharwad constituency, he (Mr. Morey) had clarified that he would not indulge in any activity that would affect the party’s prospects.

“I believe he will keep his words,” he said.

To a query, he said that the development works and service he had done in Dharwad Rural constituency (renamed Dharwad after delimitation) would help him in getting re-elected.

He said the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party candidates were not his opponents in the elections.

Congress leader Viranna Mattikatti, MLC, said that the party would win 92 seats in north Karnataka and 50 seats in south Karnataka and come to power.
