MYSORE: If Samajwadi Party leader S. Bangarappa has pushed Bharatiya Janata Party leader B.S. Yeddyurappa into a tight corner by entering the fray from Shikaripur Assembly Constituency in Shimoga district, a Samajwadi Party candidate contesting the Narasimharaja Assembly Constituency in Mysore has no qualms to jump to the rescue of his BJP rival during an interaction meeting with candidates organised by the Mysore District Journalists’ Association (MDJA) on Saturday.

When a reporter sought to know Mysore’s BJP MP C.H. Vijayshankar’s contribution to Muslim-dominated Narasimharaja segment, which is part of Mysore Lok Sabha seat, BJP candidate B.P. Manjuanth did not have a convincing reply. Even as a fumbling Mr. Manjunath went about claiming credit for inane matters, Samajwadi Party candidate Taj Mohammed Khan interrupted the BJP candidate.

“I will tell you about BJP MP’s contribution. He has sanctioned Rs. 5 lakh from the MPLAD (MP Local Area Development) Fund for the Muslim Boys’ Orphanage,” Mr Khan revealed, much to the relief of Mr. Manjuanth, who was still squirming in his seat.

“We have to acknowledge the BJP MP’s gesture. His party candidate may not know this aspect, but we know it,” said Mr. Khan.
