‘If BJP withdraws ticket, members of the community will

not vote for it’

BELLARY: The Bellary district unit of Kuruba Sangha has said that it will ask members of the community to vote against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in case the ticket issued to Bharamagouda from Vijayanagar constituency is withdrawn.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, sangha president H. Eshwarappa said that the Kuruba community had a sizeable population in Bellary district, and request had been made to all political parties to issue ticket to members of the community.

The BJP had cleared the candidature of Bharamagowda, son of the former MLA G. Shankaregowda, Mr. Eswarappa said. But he said he had received information that the party’s district unit leaders were planning to withdraw the ticket.

“Our community will condemn any such move. If the candidature is changed, the sangha will ask members of the community not to vote in favour of the BJP,” he said.

Mr. Eshwarappa said that a few aspirants belonging to

Kada-Kuruba, a sub-caste of the community that falls under the Scheduled Tribe category, have applied for ticket from Sandur and Hospet (Rural) constituencies. He wanted the political parties to consider the applications favourably.
