Local students complain of assault

by north Indian students

BIDAR: Tension prevailed on the Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College premises on Wednesday after a few residents of the hostel allegedly assaulted police personnel.

It is said that a few north Indian students of the college had assaulted some local students. The students had complained to the police about this.

When the police came to the hostel on Wednesday a few residents threw stones at them and assaulted them.

Two police personnel were injured in the incident.

Protest

After the incident, the students staged a protest to draw the attention of the college management on the issue.

The students who were allegedly assaulted said, “Inmates of the hostel have created a tense atmosphere. They have been assaulting local students for the last three days. As many as 10 students had sustained injuries.”

They blamed the college management for “delaying” action against the “troublemakers”. The students have decided to boycott their classes until the college management initiates action against the accused.

Arrest

Superintendent of Police A. Subramanyeswara Rao said that five students had been arrested in connection with the incident. Search was on to trace the others involved in the attack, he said.

Enquiry

President of the college Balbir Singh said that an enquiry would be conducted and action taken against the “guilty”.

Police personnel have been deployed on the college campus.
