MANGALORE: If you feel harried by bureaucratic delay, or facing harassment by government servants in attending to your work, some help is around as the Lokayukta will soon be launching a 24-hour helpline. Officials are being trained in handling telephone calls. Inaugurating a seminar on “The role of civil society in good governance”, organised by Mangalore University Political Science Teachers’ Association here on Friday, Lokayukta N. Santhosh Hegde said: “The official manning the helpline will be provided with the topography of the State and telephone numbers of officials to be contacted before responding to grievances.”

Mr. Hegde said: “The Lokayukta is not only meant to tackle corruption but also ensure good governance, and the helpline is a right step forward in this direction.”

The helpline would be in Bangalore, he said and added that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. authorities had been contacted for providing a toll-free number.
