BANGALORE: The staff from the Organised Crime Prevention Cell of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Tuesday arrested seven persons with criminal antecedents and seized from them 40 swords, one revolver, nine rounds of ammunition, two cars, a motorcycle and five mobile phones.
The accused were arrested near Binny Layout-Nagarabavi junction while they were on their way to murder rival gangsters Mulama alias Lokesh and Vishwa, Commissioner of Police Neelam Achutha Rao told presspersons on Wednesday. Jagga, alias Marenahalli Jagga (29) of Vijayanagar, an erstwhile associate of the slain gangsters Thammaiah and Macha Manjunath, is a leader of the arrested gang.
He has now formed his own gang and he operates with the assistance of another gangster Krishna alias Korangu, the police said.
His arrested accomplices were identified as Gajendra (25), Murugesh (28) and Ganesh (28), all residents of Vijayanagar, Nagesh (28) of Yelahanka, Santosh Kumar (23) of Mysore and Lakshmeesh (24) of Nelamangala.
The arrests were made by a team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rameshchandra.
In another case, the CCB team has arrested Ajith Kumar Singh (27) of Anchepalya on Tumkur Road on charge of extortion and seized from him two pistols, five bullets, 10 car keys, original registration certificates of five cars, 12 SIM cards, four mobile phones and 23 debit and credit cards.
The police earlier arrested Singh and his six accomplices in May on charge of lifting the vehicles and recovered 35 cars, which were stolen from various cities across the country. There are 15 criminal cases against Singh, the police said.
After he was released from the Arthur Road prison in Mumbai recently, Singh had threatened a businessman on Infantry Road on February 25 and tried to extort money from him, the police said.
