Compound around them demolished

MYSORE: A compound built around four sites of Mysore Urban Development Authority at Kyathamaranahalli HUDCO III Phase here was demolished on Thursday.

The pre-dawn operation was carried out by 50 workers under the guidance of the area executive engineer. The eight-foot concrete compound around four sites that had been encroached upon was demolished under tight police security.

Acting on a complaint from one of the site owners about the alleged encroachment, officials of MUDA inspected the spot and reportedly confirmed that the compound had been built around four sites that had been encroached upon. They decided to demolish it based on the instructions from the Commissioner of MUDA and Mysore City Corporation, P. Manivannan. Efforts are on to identify the person who had encroached upon the sites.

Mr. Manivannan told The Hindu that the compound had been demolished as it had been built around MUDA sites illegally. “It is a stray case which was attended to on a complaint,” he said, on whether the drive would continue.

Mr. Manivannan said that a major drive would be launched in February to clear encroachments on footpath. “It will be a combined operation of MUDA, MCC and the police. We are holding discussions with the police on the demolition drive,” he added.
