Over 180 litres of duplicate liquor seized

MYSORE: The sleuths of the Enforcement and Intelligence Wing of the Department of Excise arrested a person and seized duplicate liquor and a brand new car used to transport the brew at Managanahalli check-post on Mysore-Kushalnagar Highway on Monday.

The arrested is identified as N. Ravindra of Suntikoppa in Kodagu district.

The excise officers on information were waiting to intercept the car at the gate.

But on seeing the officers, the accused reversed the car and sped away in the opposite direction forcing the officers to follow the car.

One of the officers, who was chasing the car on a motorcycle, threw his helmet on one of the wheels of the car.

Loud noise

When the helmet burst into pieces with a loud noise, the accused stopped the car fearing something has happened to it.

The excise officers arrested Ravindra, but another person Aiyappa managed to escape. Joint Commissioner of Excise (in-charge) Bheemappa told The Hindu that the total seizure is valued at Rs. 6.5 lakh.

Case registered

Over 180 litres of duplicate liquor had been seized and a case has been registered. The illegal consignment was on its way to Suntikoppa from the city, he said. Mr. Bheemappa said, “We are on round-the-clock vigil to curb illicit liquor in the district.”


“There is information about illicit brewing somewhere on the outskirts of the city, which we shall be tracking it down soon,” he added.
