Call for early recruitment of art teachers in State

  • Uniform art curriculum sought in schools
  • `Rectify anomalies in recruitment process'

    >DHARWAD: Several art teachers under the aegis of Akhil Karnataka Chitrakala Shikshakara Sangha began an indefinite fast here on Thursday demanding early appointment of art teachers in the State.

Prior to that, the art teachers took out a protest march from Kadapa Maidan to the office of the Deputy Commissioner where they handed over a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The protesters demanded a uniform art curriculum in all the government, aided and primary and high schools across the State.

They said the Government should revoke its order dated February 2, 2000, with regard to the educational qualification of art teachers and include modified rules under the Cadre and Recruitment rules with immediate effect.

During 2004-05, applications were invited from art teachers. These were received at four divisional centres. But so far, the recruitment process had not been completed. They said unless the State Government came out with specific assurances and steps, they would not stop the agitation.
