Art at the airport

The expanded terminal would also showcase art installations by various artists. As part of the process, a ‘flight mural’ by Yusuf Arakkal welcomes the passengers in the domestic arriving at the airport.

The stainless steel mural evokes the many dimensions of Bangalore and is based on the theme of flight, the city’s heritage as the aerospace hub of India and the flag bearer of modernity and technology in the country.

“While planning the expansion of the terminal, we felt that the airport should not just be an extension of city’s ethos but also that of the community. Art gives them a reason to pause and appreciate the softer side of the region, evoking meaning and purpose while to the overall experience at the terminal,” BIAL managing director G.V. Sanjeev Reddy.

Other art, mostly paintings, would be sourced from different artists in the country and displayed at vantage positions across the terminal building.
