Lawyers Collective stages protestA small gathering of people from Lawyers Collective staged a protest in front of the GlaxoSmithKline office in Bangalore on Monday in protest against the company's application for a patent on Combivir, a medicine for HIV/AIDS. Anand Grover, Director of the Lawyers Collective, HIV/AIDS unit, said: "Patents create monopolies on drug manufacture and prevent the production of affordable generic versions of the same drug." N.Y. Sanglikar, Head of Corporate Communications of the company, said he was not aware of the development. "I will have to check with the head office in the United Kingdom," he added.
