A seven to eight member gang took to their heels when the house owner’s son opened three rounds of fire. This incident occurred in Basaveshwar Nagar here early Tuesday morning.

According to Chetan Singh Rathore, Superintendent of Police, the miscreants, armed with iron rods, after assaulting the security man, broke open the door of the house and tried to barge into the bedroom.

Bhanuprasad, the owner, and his son Ashwiniprasad, who were in one of the bedrooms, woke up to the sounds. Suspecting that thieves had entered the house, Ashwiniprasad opened two rounds of fire on the bedroom door with his revolver.

When the attempts to break open the bedroom door continued, he took another shot which pierced the door and hit the glass pane of the kitchen.

Meanwhile, on hearing the gun shots, the other family members woke up and raised an alarm.

Sensing danger, the miscreants fled. The police rushed to the spot on learning of the incident. Mr. Rathore said a special team, headed by Police Inspector District Crime Investigation Bureau, had been formed to investigate the case.
