State Government allocates Rs. 5 lakhs for the two-day event
Well-known musicians to participate in the event `Dasa keertans' to be recited at the Purandara Mantapa Compact disc on `Dasa keertans' to be released
BELLARY: The State Government has decided to celebrate "aradhana" of saint Purandaradasa in a grand manner.
The Government has allocated Rs. 5 lakhs for the purpose this year as against Rs. 50,000 released so far. "It will be a two-day event at Hampi from January 28. "Aradhana" will also be held in all district headquarters this year, Muddu Mohan, Director of Kannada and Culture, told The Hindu on Sunday.
Well-known musicians, including Vidya Bhushan, M.S. Sheela, Nagavalli Nagaraj, Madhav Gudi, Subhadramma Mansur, Bhadragiri Achut Das, B. Kumardas and Kasarvalli sisters, will participate in the event, he said.
"Dasa keertans" will be recited at the Purandara Mantapa. A dance ballet by Suma Vijay and troupe will be held, he said.
The highlight of this year's programme is musicians will render "Dasa keertans" at Purandara Mantapa.
Earlier, the organisers used to perform puja at the mantapa and hold music sessions at the Virupaksha Temple.
Musicians from Chennai led by V.L. Sudarshan have composed five "Dasa keertans" in the ragas of "pancha ratna keertana" composed by Thyagaraja. The team, which composed "Dasa keertans" last year, has come out with a compact disc to be released here this year.
Iqbal Ansari, Minister for Medical Education, will inaugurate the event. M.P. Prakash, Deputy Chief Minister, is expected to participate in the valedictory function.
