HASSAN: The former president of the Karnataka Growers Federation B.A. Jagannath has demanded that the Union Government appoint a coffee grower as chairman of the Coffee Board. Speaking to presspersons in Sakleshpur on Wednesday, he said the Board had failed to understand the woes of growers. The present chairman was under the wrong impression that coffee growers were living comfortably and hence did not need assistance. Realities were, however, different with many small growers struggling to lead normal lives. Untimely rains that lashed Hassan, Kodagu and Chickamagalur districts had damaged crops. — Staff Correspondent
