GULBARGA: A three-day anti-filariasis drive got underway in Gulbarga city on Tuesday.
The drive was inaugurated by Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat president Shailaja Sharanabhupala Reddy at the Government Higher Primary School at Sundar Nagar. It was inaugurated through distribution of tablets.
A release from the Information Department here on Tuesday said that a drug distributor had been appointed for every 65-70 houses to distribute Diethylcarbamazine citrare (DEC) tablets. Every drug unit would distribute 1.05 lakh tablets to people. The drug distributors would give the tablets to people at the doorsteps.
The release said that in Gulbarga district, 6, 43,008 families would be covered under the drive, and 32,41,801 tablets would be distributed. For the drive, 10, 716 volunteers and 1,084 supervisors had been appointed. According to the release, 507 centres have been opened.
Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer S. Shekar, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Nalini Namoshi, District Surgeon Sulochana S. Minch, and others were present.
