Bangalore: Around 200 support staff from various colleges in the city staged an impromptu protest at the Maharani’s Arts and Science College here on Friday.

The semester examinations for various courses, including B.A., B.Com, B.Sc., BCA and BBM, were being conducted from June 2 by Bangalore University. “We have to submit the students’ answer scripts at the designated centres. The university-appointed custodian had to receive the answer scripts. The examinations are conducted in two sessions — one gets over at noon and another around 5 p.m.,” said Renuka Prasad of Vasavi Vidyaniketan College.

He said that since Monday, the custodian was arriving late at the centre (Maharani’s Arts and Science College). “We have to submit answer scripts of the different streams at various centres. Without submitting them at Maharani’s College, we cannot go to another centre; neither can we take them along with us. Today, we waited till 4.30 p.m., but to no avail. There was no sign of the custodian,” he said.

Aggrieved, the support staff decided to stage a protest, Mr. Prasad said. “ After we staged a protest, the Registrar arrived and received the answer scripts,” he added.

Registrar (Evaluation) L. Radhakrishna said that the problem of the custodian coming late was reported only from this centre.

“The university has 12 other centres. This was due to some communication problem. The issue has been sorted out ,” he added.
