: Minister for Social Welfare and district in-charge H. Anjaneya has instructed the Deputy Commissioner to convene a meeting of district-level officers and other organisations in the first week of November to discuss preparations for the zilla utsav.

Speaking at a meeting of district-level officers here on Monday, he stated that the zilla utsav was last celebrated in 2006, and since then it is being postponed for various technical reasons. “Henceforth the utsav would be celebrated every year by taking every elected representative into confidence,” he added.

Famous artists, musicians, sportspersons and other personalities in the district should be contacted seeking their suggestions and cooperation for the success of the utsav.

Since the State government is planning to construct Moorarji Desai Residential Schools in every hobli to ensure that every backward community child gets better education, district-level officers should conduct a detailed survey and submit a report on the feasibility of constructing the schools.

“Officers should also search for suitable land for construction of schools in places where such schools are required,” he added. The Social Welfare Department in the district has been instructed to submit a proposal of Rs. 17 crore for providing necessary facilities at all hostels in the district and also for construction of new hostels.

Mr. Anjaneya also informed the City Municipal Council (CMC) to handover the land required for construction of Dr. Babu Jagjivanram and Valmiki Bhavan in the city as the foundation stone for the same would be laid in the first week of November.

Goshala

Commenting on the scanty rainfall in Molkalmuru taluk in the Kharif season and scarcity of drinking water and fodder for animals, the Minister said officers concerned have been instructed to open a goshala in B.G. Kere to ensure fodder and drinking water to cattle and such goshalas would be opened in other places depending on the requirement.

Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.M. Narayanswamy and Superintendent of Police Ravikumar were present.
