`They are indulging in politics at the cost of development' Politicians blamed for stopping work on canal
Work of removing silt from the Bellary Nala has been stalled
Belgaum: Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha member from Belgaum Suresh C. Angadi has said that he is unable to understand mindset of elected representatives in the district, who he alleged are indulging in politics at the cost of development and welfare of the people.
Talking to presspersons here on Monday, he said he failed to understand the rational behind stalling the work of removing silt from the Bellary Nala on the Sambra Airport Road.
He said that farmers on the banks of the nala had struggled for over two decades to draw attention of the authorities to the problems due to accumulation of silt consisting of soil and toxic materials. He had led a movement and got the present Government sanction necessary funds for removal of silt. Subsequently, the work to remove silt had started about a month ago.
But, the work had come to grinding halt following opposition by a section farmers led by an elected representative, he alleged.
Mr. Angadi said that it was after a long gap that the State Government sanctioned adequate funds for various developmental activities. "But our politicians are playing an obstructive role, which is not in the interest of the people."
He said the people in Hubli were cooperating with the Government to facilitate expansion of the airport in the city. While the expansion of Sambra Airport in Belgaum, which would open new vistas of industrial development in the district, was being delayed due to negative response to the project.
