The MP has been urged to fight elections on development issues
Karwar: The Uttara Kannada district unit of the Youth Congress has condemned Ananth Kumar Hegde, MP and BJP candidate for the Uttara Kannada parliamentary constituency, for his “provocative speech”.
In a press release, general secretary of the unit Suneel Bangari and office-bearers of the Dandeli Youth Congress unit Kirti Gaonkar and Rafiq Khan have expressed concern over the “communal speech” of Mr. Hegde.
The Congress was opposing terrorism.
The remark of Mr. Hegde against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande was nothing but a political gimmick, the release said. The Youth Congress leaders challenged Mr. Hegde to fight the elections on development issues.
They urged him not to create communal strife by making statements against minority community. Mr. Hegde was worried about people-friendly programmes of the UPA Government and was trying to divert the attention of voters by raking up communal issues, the press release said.
