16 members submit memorandum to DC

Bidar: Sixteen gram panchayat members of Anadur Gram Panchayat in Bidar Taluk of the district have moved a no-confidence motion against the gram panchayat president, Devidas, accusing him of “misappropriation of funds” in the works undertaken under the gram panchayat limits.

A delegation of gram panchayat members and villager residents met officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Bidar city on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum addressed to Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta and Assistant Commissioner Zaheera Naseem.

The memorandum alleged that Devidas has “misused” funds allocated to the gram panchayat and has not taken gram panchayat members into confidence while allotting funds for various development works.

The members alleged that Mr. Devidas has prepared documents claiming that roadwork had been taken up on the stretch from Sikendarpur to Government Hostel, and work on drain had been taken up on the stretch between Ambedkar Chowk and Lake area. But, in reality no work had been undertaken.

The members urged Mr. Harsh Gupta and Ms. Zaheera Naseem to inquire into the works undertaken by the gram panchayat from 2007 to 2009 and initiate action against the erring persons. The members said that the village residents were sure of the “misappropriation of funds” in the gram panchayat.

Among those present were Shantappa, Shyamanna, Eshwar, Damodar, Basamma, Bhagyamma, and Basappa.
