BANGALORE: There was a tinge of anxiety on the faces of a couple of National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College on Friday as they were putting their geared bicycles in order to proceed on an expedition to Ooty. One of the seniors came and patted their backs, which was then followed by loud cheers by their classmates, parents, and the NCC personnel.

The 11-member team embarked on a 550-km journey, accompanied by a three-member support staff of Karnataka and Goa NCC Directorate. They will be covering the distance in two weeks and return to the city on June 23.

"This journey will stand in good stead in our future. This will be much more than an adventure exercise where we will be interacting with people and spread awareness about the need to protect the environment and about HIV/AIDS epidemic," said the beaming leader of the expedition, Captain Arvind Kumar. The team members have trained themselves for a year to ride bicycles for long distances. The NCC cadets will be cycling along the Bangalore-Mysore Highway and cover 45 km a day. They will stop at places en route and hold 30-minute programmes.
