Raichur: Members of the district unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged protest here on Friday demanding the Union Government to bring in Amendment to Article 371 so as to accord Hyderabad Karnataka region with separate state status..

Led by K. Narayana, president of the district unit of the vedike, the activists gathered at the Ambedkar Circle and performed ‘urulu seve’. Then, they took out a procession which passed through the Tippu Sultan Road before reaching the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They staged dharna and submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Tahsildar Shashikala urging the Union Government to concede the long-standing demand of the people of the Hyderabad Karnataka.

Mr. Narayana said the vedike had staged protests on several occasions in the past urging the Union Government to concede the demand of the people of Hyderabad Karnataka region to bring an amendment to the Article 371 of the Constitution. But their protests had evoked no response.

He alleged that the MPs from the region had failed to pressurise the Union Government to bring in the amendment to Article 371. He said vedike would ‘gehrao’ the MPs and call for a bandh in Hyderabad-Karnataka region if their demand was not met.
