HASSAN: Folklore graduates are not eligible for any government posts as per the present recruitment norms. If there are no career opportunities, then what is the need for universities to offer such courses, president of Akhila Karnataka Folk Artistes Forum Veeresh Bellary said here on Wednesday.
The State Government should either amend the recruitment rules or cancel the courses on folklore being offered by the Kannada University, Hampi, and Karnatak University, Dharwad, Mr. Bellary told presspersons.
Mr. Bellary said that folklore graduates were struggling to earn a living as they were not eligible for jobs in the government sector. This was also discouraging youngsters from taking up the course, he said.
He said that folklore graduates should be appointed as resource persons for programmes aimed at creating awareness among the public about folk art.
He welcomed the State Government’s move to set up a folklore university.
