Practitioners of ayurveda, yoga, unani, siddha and homoeopathy have reiterated their demand to allow them to prescribe allopathy medicines to patients in emergency situations.
AYUSH practitioners, who staged a dharna under the banner of AYUSH Federation of India outside the Suvarna Soudha on Monday, submitted a memorandum to Health Minister U.T. Khadar.
Federation State president N.A. Magadum said AYUSH practitioners were allowed to prescribe allopathy medicines at least in 12 States. A majority of them were practicing in rural centres where MBBS graduates were not ready to serve.
Mr. Khadar promised them that he would try to clear legal hurdles to implement their demand.
However, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences has turned down the government’s plea to introduce a bridge course for AYUSH graduates.
A similar request had been also made to the deemed universities.
