BIDAR: Tapas Sinha, general secretary of the central executive committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has asked the State Government to allot land in Bangalore to install a statue of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

Mr. Sinha was here to unveil a statue of Bhagat Singh at Bhagat Singh Circle.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Sinha said that members of the DYFI in association with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) would raise funds for the statue. Some States, including Tamil Nadu, had agreed to install a statue of Bhagat Singh in their capitals.

Mr. Sinha demanded that the Union Government name a university or an airport after Bhagat Singh in recognition of his sacrifice to the nation. He said that similarly trains or railway stations should be named after other martyrs such as Sukhdev and Raj Guru.

He said that there were universities and airports named after Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi but there was nothing named after Bhagat Singh.

Mr. Sinha also demanded that an award be instituted in Bhagat Singh’s name.
