The district Health Department has set up 1,047 booths to administer oral polio vaccine to 1,80,458 children below the age of five from January 20, District Health and Family Welfare Officer S.R. Mahalingappa has said.
Inaugurating a rally organised by the district administration and the district Health and Family Welfare Department here on Saturday, he said that on Sunday oral polio vaccine would be administered at booths, bus terminals, the railway station and the market area.
Nine mobile teams comprising 2,094 staff members and 222 supervisors had been constituted for the programme and 179 vehicles had been provided to them, he said.
From January 21, trained members of non-governmental organisations and accredited social health activists would visit every house in the district for three days to ensure that all children below the age of five are covered under the immunisation programme, which will be formally inaugurated at the district hospital here on Sunday at 8.30 a.m., he said.
Earlier, a procession was taken out by students of schools and colleges to create public awareness about the programme.
