Over 2.13 lakh people eligible to exercise their franchise
Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri has said that all arrangements have been made in the district for smooth conduct of the urban local body elections scheduled for March 7.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Ikkeri said that elections would be held for 142 wards in five town municipalities and one city municipal council on March 7 in which 2,13,977 people were eligible to vote. Of them, 1,06,695 voters were men and 1,07,282 women.
The city municipal council here consists of 35 wards with 99,506 voters — 49,687 male and 48,819 female. As many as 106 polling booths will be set up, and 12 of them have been identified as sensitive and 11 as hypersensitive.
In Molakalmur town municipality, there are 15 wards and 11,156 voters — 5,518 male and 5,638 female. Fifteen polling booths will be set up there. Four each had been identified as hypersensitive and sensitive, he said.
In Challakere town municipality, there are 27 wards and 36,199 voters — 17,920 male and 18,279 female. Of the 42 polling booths to be set up, nine are hypersensitive and 10 sensitive.
Hiriyur town municipality has 36,667 voters — 18,189 male and 18,487 female — across 27 wards.
Forty-eight polling booths will be set up, of which, four are hypersensitive and seven sensitive, the Deputy Commissioner said.
In Hosadurga town municipality, there are 23 wards and 20,027 voters — 10,157 male and 9,870 female.
Of the 24 polling booths, six aypersensitive and five sensitive.
In Holalkere town municipality, there are 15 wards. Of the 10,422 voters, 5,224 are male and 5,198 female. Among the 15 polling booths to be set up, five are hypersensitive and three sensitive, Mr. Ikkeri said.
Thirty-nine check-posts will be set up across the district to curb unlawful activities during elections. In addition, 24-hour helplines have been set up to provide information to voters and receive complaints about illegal activities.

To a question, Mr. Ikkeri said that licences of bars would be cancelled if they failed to follow the norms.
