Madikeri: Al Ameen, Kodagu district unit, is organising a mass marriage involving 26 poor Muslim girls at the Cauvery Hall here on Sunday, publicity secretary of the unit M.E Mohammad said here on Friday.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Mohammad said the Kodagu district unit of Al Ameen had organised marriages of 64 poor and orphan girls in the district so far. As many as 22 weddings were conducted last year.

The president of the unit, F.A. Mohammad Haji, said an expenditure of Rs. 60,000 would be incurred on each couple.

Brides would be given jewels and dress while the groom would get clothes, he said.

The Al Ameen raised funds from donors for the purpose, he said.

President of the Kodagu Muslim Samaja K.M. Ibrahim would preside over the function while Jainul Abideen Thangal from Dugaladka would bless the couple.

The event would be inaugurated by the former Union Minister, C.M. Ibrahim.

The vice-president of the unit, K.H. Iqbal Hassan, the unit convenor, M.H. Nooruddin, and the general secretary, K.Y. Qureishi, were present.
