Akshaya Patra on Monday celebrated the milestone of providing 2.5 crore meals in the district since beginning its operations here in 2005.

Managed by ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) and with funding from the State and Union governments, as well as private donors, the Akshaya Patra scheme provides mid-day meals to students in government schools.

Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited (MRPL) P.P. Upadhya said that by donating food, the organisation was attracting students towards education. “Akshaya Patra addresses hunger which is the main reason for children staying away from school,” he said.
