The highlight was fly past of Surya Kiran aircraft and Sarang helicopters
MYSORE: The full dress rehearsal for Dasara Airshow enthralled a large crowd at the Bannimantap Grounds here on Tuesday.
With the introduction of new events such as aerobatic formations by Surya Kiran team and Sarang helicopters this year, the show had all the “most-essential” ingredients to excite the audience, which comprised mainly of school and college students.
The highlight was the fly past of three Surya Kiran aircraft and Sarang helicopters.
The rehearsal got off to a start with the landing of an Mi-8 helicopter on the ground. This was followed by the landing of a Chetak helicopter on the other part of the ground.
Air Marshal K.K. Noahwar was present.
Later, a helicopter showered flower petals much to the delight of the audience. This was followed by a demonstration of slithering operation by soldiers from an Mi-8 helicopter.
The fly past of Dorniers in a “Small Boy” formation drew loud applause. This was followed by the fly past of three fighter jets — a Jaguar and two MiG-21 aircraft.
Members of Akash Ganga, the celebrated skydiving team of the Indian Air Force (IAF), enthralled the audience by diving from a great height. Assisted by parachutes, the men in blue dropped on the ground from a height of over 6,000 ft amid rousing cheers. The Air Warrior Drill Team of the IAF showcased their skills on the occasion. Adarsh and his team from Bangalore presented a show of aero models. The police had made tight security arrangement at the venue.
The airshow will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
