SHIMOGA: The Senior Divisional Manager of the Shimoga division of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India, M.C. Humberi, said here on Tuesday that if the LIC had emerged as the biggest life insurance company in the country it was because of the hard and sincere efforts of over 13 lakh agents who were virtually the backbone of the organisation.

He was speaking at a function after inaugurating a conference of LIC agents organised by the divisional council of the LIC Agents’ Federation of India.

Though the LIC was facing competition from private insurance companies there was no threat to it as it continued to serve as the most trusted insurance organisation, Mr. Humberi said.

“However, there is no room for complacency and LIC agents should continue to show the same zeal and interest in their operations,” he said.

Mr. Humberi said that the LIC held 54 per cent of the market share and it was the responsibility of the agents and others concerned to see that it did not fall below 50 per cent under any circumstance.

He said that the LIC management had been offering several incentives to its agents to sustain their interest in their operations. President of the federation K.V. Keshavamurthy presided over the function.
