Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni on Wednesday assured the Bombay High Court at Goa that the government would take strict action against the drug trafficking in the State.

The Advocate General told the court that after the Director General of Police received a complaint from Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, the north Goa Superintendent of Police Vishram Borkar had personally met Mr. Lobo to seek more details on the drug trade prevalent in the north Goa’s coastal belt.

During the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by citizens of Anjuna, the High Court on Tuesday expressed concern that even the Calangute MLA felt helplessness about the situation. The MLA had filed a complaint about drug trafficking and even named the alleged offenders.

Expressing its unhappiness about authorities failing to act in accordance with law, the court had indicated that it may have to take suo motu cognizance of the issue.
