BELLARY: Lal Krishna Advani, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, today laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Government Dental College building, a market complex and improvement to the existing lake at Kolagallu village for supply of drinking water to Bellary city.

The State government has allocated Rs. 20 crore for the construction of the building of the dental college, while the Reddy brothers had come forward to donate Rs. 26 crore out of their own funds for the lake and construction of reservoir. The market complex was being constructed by the City Corporation.

Mr. Advani said the pro-people work undertaken by the Reddy brothers was worth emulating. “I was invited to inaugurate the old age home set up by them three years ago and now I am here to inaugurate the school for the mentally retarded and for the construction of a reservoir for the people of Bellary in memory of their mother Ms. Rukminamma,” he said. The proposed reservoir, which is in addition to the existing two reservoirs at Allipur and Moka, will have a storage capacity of around 3,500 million litres. Keeping in view the increase in the population by 2026, the additional reservoir would help to supply drinking water daily to citizens of Bellary.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa laid the foundation stone for the Jungle Resorts and Lodges. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism, welcomed the gathering.

Mr. Advani and Mr. Yediyurappa were accorded a civic reception.
