`It is their duty to provide details of development work'

GULBARGA: The Gulbarga Taluk Panchayat has recommended disciplinary action against 14 officials who have failed to attend its general body meetings and provide information regarding development work.

A decision in this regard was taken at a general body meeting of the taluk panchayat held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Vijayakumar Biradar.

A unanimous resolution was passed to request the Chief Executive Officer of Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat P.C. Jaffer to initiate disciplinary action against the 14 officials of various departments for their continued absence during general body meetings of the taluk panchayat.

The officers against whom action has been sought include block education officers of Gulbarga North and South; Gulbarga Taluk Officer of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Development Corporation; Social Forest Divisional Officer; Sericulture Development Officer; Assistant Executive Engineer of the Zilla Panchayat Engineering Division; Assistant Director of the Cooperative Department; officials of the Karnataka Land Army and Fisheries; Assistant Director of the Animal Husbandry Department; Water Shed Development Officer, Tahsildar, Deputy Tahsildar of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, and Director of the Nirmiti Kendra.

Action plan sought

The taluk panchayat members who participated in the general body meeting took exception to the conduct of these officials and accused them of neglecting the taluk panchayat.

Mr. Biradar urged officials of various departments to prepare an action plan for 2007-08 and submit it at the general body meeting.
