DAVANGERE: The district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) party has urged the district administration to initiate action against those who were caught diverting rice to be distributed under the public distribution system (PDS) into the open market. President of the district JD (S) unit T. Dasakariyappa and working president Koolenahalli Sathish here on Tuesday, said that the incident should have been viewed seriously and action should have been taken against the guilty. The incident, which brought this trend into the public eye, was only the tip of the iceberg, they said. "No delay can be excused."

If the issue was probed sincerely, a big racket could be unearthed, Mr. Sathish said. The JD(S) has set an ultimatum of a week to book cases against the accused, failing which the party has threatened to stage a strike.
