HUBLI: People of Unakal laid siege to the Vidyanagar police station in Hubli on Sunday in protest against the police for not taking action against a “self-proclaimed Dalit leader who was exploiting people”.

The protesters alleged that Pandu Hosmani, who proclaimed himself to be a Dalit leader, had become a menace in Unakal village and surrounding areas.

Threat

They alleged that he threatened people if they did not give him money.

Two youths, who refused to give him money, were beaten up, they said.

Though the matter was brought to the notice of the police, no action was taken against him, they said.

They staged a protest in front of the police station and demanded that action be taken against Hosmani.

The people withdrew the protest when senior officials promised them that action would be taken with regard to their demand.
