Spokesperson of the Mandya District Pradesh Congress Committee T.S. Sathyananda on Thursday requested Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar to take action against private educational institutions here for collecting donations from students. “Maharshi Valmiki Central School and other institutions have been collecting Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh as donation and also excess fees from students admitted in the academic year 2013–14,” Mr. Sathyananda alleged in a letter to the Minister.

He added that many educational institutions had been forcing parents to pay exorbitant sums for uniforms and transport.

He alleged that these institutions had been violating the rules and regulations under the Right To Education Act.
