An architecture student of Acharya Polytechnic College, Soladevanahalli, who was hospitalised at a private hospital in Peenya with a head injury on January 27, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday at a private hospital in Thrissur, Kerala, where he was shifted for treatment in February.

The student identified as Ahad Ibrahim (20), was from Thrissur, Kerala. He was pursuing Diploma in Architecture at the Acharya Polytechnic College and was reportedly staying with two friends in a flat in Bagalagunte.

Police sources say that he was admitted to Sapthagiri Hospital by his roommates on January 27.

An official with Soladavenahalli police said that they were alerted by the hospital authorities and when they went to check on the case, the boy was in coma.

The police official said that the roommates claimed that the boy had an accidental fall in the bathroom and they had broken open the door before shifting him to hospital.

The boy was treated at a hospital in the city till February 5 after which he was shifted to a private hospital in Thrissur, his hometown.

C.B.M. Bhushan, spokesperson of the institute, said the parents had in a complaint to the college principal on January 31 alleged that their son was ragged in his flat and this led to his injuries. However, he said that the parents had not named anyone.

“Some of his classmates had told the principal a day after he was hospitalised that he had met with a motorcycle accident. The circumstances in which he was injured remain a mystery,” he said.

Accordng to Mr. Bhushan, an internal inquiry was conducted but nothing came out of it. “The college forwarded the parents’ statement to the police,” he added.

Sandeep Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), told The Hindu that the inspector of police, Soladevanahalli police had neither brought the allegations of ragging to the notice of senior officials nor had acted on it.

“The department will initiate action against Yathiraj, the police-inspector. I have asked the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yeshwanthpur, to probe into the matter and submit a report in two days. We will probe into the case and look into all the allegations,” he said.
