All-India Radio (AIR), Dharwad, has won eight awards at an annual AIR award ceremony.

Governor of Punjab Shivraj Patil and Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni presented the awards at a function in Chandigarh recently.

AIR-Dharwad won three awards in the all-India music competition and five in the State-level annual awards category.

AIR-Dharwad programme head C.U. Bellakki, programme executive Satish Parvathikar, and transmission executive Manjula Puranik received the awards.

The maiden programme broadcast by AIR-Dharwad, Muttagi Kaditu Maye, on the life and rehabilitation of devadasis, and the programme Ondu Dattu Nooru Muthu, on adoption, were among those that won awards.

Ondu Dattu Nooru Muthu won under the family welfare category.
