Protest in front of CET Cell today

BANGALORE: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded that the seat matrix and fee structure arrived at by the Government for admission to professional colleges should be modified.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, State Secretary of ABVP Prabhudev Kappagal criticised the high cost for some of the seats. "The Government said that it will keep the poor in mind while deciding the allotment. But it has failed to do so," he said.

The ABVP is now demanding that the fee for admission to professional engineering colleges through Common Entrance Test be fixed at Rs. 10,000. It demanded that the fee for medical colleges under CET should be reduced to Rs. 30,000 instead of Rs. 35,000 and that fees for 40 per cent of the seats awarded through COMED-K should be fixed at Rs. 2.5 lakh instead of Rs. 2.9 lakh.

There should be a 50-50 split between CET and COMED-K, it said.

Also, the fee for admission to dental colleges under CET should be fixed at Rs. 20,000 instead of Rs. 25,000 and fees under COMED-K should be Rs. 2 lakh instead of Rs. 2.30 lakh, Mr. Kappagal said.

The ABVP would stage a protest outside the CET Cell in Malleswaram on Wednesday protesting the fees structure and seat matrix, he added.
